Barking- Episode 3 – barking on a walk -dog training
This is the third episode in the series of Barking. In this episode I will show you the beginning exercises on how to teach your dog not to bark on a walk. Stay tuned and Subscribe to see other exercises that are very useful for reactive dogs and dogs that are hyperactive. All these exercises benefit ANY dog, not just fearful, reactive or aroused dogs. These same exercises are GREAT for dogs with little impulse control, the kind of dog that wants to pull towards everything on a walk. ———————– When a dog becomes aroused or reactive, it is due to chemicals being released by the brain, effecting the dogs behavior. Not only does a dogs behavior change because of these chemicals and stress hormones, but their heart beat, respiration, and blood flow will change too. Jerking a dogs neck will not reduce these chemicals, instead it will INCREASE them. Barking can be reinforcing, so the more a dog is allowed to bark the more likely they will continue barking in the future. When you and your dog are surprised on a walk and your dog starts to bark, simply say “Let’s Go” and move briskly in the opposite direction. You can use this cue whenever you change direction unexpectedly or need to move from an area that is causing your dog to be over their threshold. Here are some tips: 1-when on a walk cross the street to set your dog up for success 2-If you have a very fearful or reactive dog, simply change the direction of your walk when you see something your dog wont be able …

I have just come across your video page, home page and blog, and I will follow them closely from now on. I was a bit stuck in teaching my dog pivoting, and I also wanted to find some new tricks to train, and when I came across your video page, I got all the help I needed, and SO much more! Now I have watched lots of your videos and set up a training plan for passing dogs, for barking at strange people, and of course for pivoting and tricks
Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you for this, I am now going to start trying your treat training when my dog sees other dogs. I have a pug with high anxiety that just goes crazy barking if another dog is anywhere near her. I’m at the end of my rope! Have tried so many things
Actually — I think that the trends are DEFINITLY swinging away from the ‘dominance theory’. In fact, Zak’s show(or youtube vids) never show or use dominance method. He uses communication and trust building and relationship building. I love both of your training styles and watch both of your vids all the time. Just wanted to say that — your time may come sooner than you think as people are absolutly moving away from the dominance method(and pretty quickly i might add). Love your vids-thx!
Could not agree more but your videos are helping people to understand there is a different way to train. Plant a seed……
I wish you are here in Washington….
that’s really helpfull. thanks. I can’t wait until the episode 4. You are such a fantastic dog trainer, even better then Zak George. Will you be on Animal Planet some day??
Awesome video! Happy New Year! Coach Cory
Popular american TV is not ready to let go of the debunked dominance theory yet. Maybe one day…
man i think you should have your own show on animal planet your alot better then zak george

Thank you so much! This video is just what I need!
Yeah … was a bit of a problem in Wiesbaden last weekend. She went bezerk, when we wenot into the ring for our DD number, but she did come back to me and we were able to do the number. At the end, she ran FULL SPEED 4-5 times around the inside of the ring. I think to burn off the tension. I put up a training film of the new routiine, that we’ll be doing in WInterthur in February. Still got some work to do, but the audience in Wiesbaden did like it, even with a couple of mishaps.
This is a great video. The dog is beautiful. I need to try this with my dog sometime.
What I’d really like to see with barking is a dog who barks while loose in the yard or in the house. My dog always barks really loudly when people come to the door or sees someone on the street outside.
I love this video. We started doing this when our reactive BC pup was 4-5 months old. We left off doing it. Now she’s 9 mths and 10 times worse than ever. As soon as I saw this vid I thought – that’s it, we’re going to crack this!!!!!! After 2 sessions she’s improving. Thanks kikopup!!!!
Another winner! Thanks Emily
I LOVE this video
Love all your “barking” videos, i hope you keep these coming!
